How many matches a day is normal?

Updated September 8, 2026

In short

There is no normal number. Match count depends on your city, your app, your gender and how selective you are β€” four factors, three of which do not compare between people.

The only usable figure is your rate: matches divided by likes sent. That is what tells you whether your profile works, and it is the only one you can move.

Why the raw number means nothing

Someone liking three hundred profiles a week in London and someone liking twenty in a mid-sized town cannot compare counters. The first will mechanically get more matches without having a better profile β€” they are simply playing more hands, on a bigger table.

That is why "how many matches a day is normal" has no answer. The useful question is: out of a hundred people I like, how many match?

Measuring your real rate

For two weeks, track two numbers β€” a notebook or your phone's notes will do.

  1. How many profiles you like each day.
  2. How many matches you get each day.

At the end, divide the second by the first. You get a percentage, and more importantly you get a baseline against yourself β€” the only one worth anything.

Then change one single thing: your lead photo. Run another two weeks. If the rate rises, you know exactly why. It is the only method that gives you an answer instead of an impression.

When to actually worry

  • Fewer than two matches per hundred likes, held over two weeks. There, the profile is the cause, and that can be fixed.
  • A decent rate but no conversations. The problem is no longer the profile, it is the first message.
  • A sharp collapse after weeks of normal results. Look at what you changed β€” usually a swapped photo, sometimes a reinstalled account.

And one case where you should not worry: the first ten days of a new account, when many apps show new profiles more. The return to normal afterwards is not a crash, it is the end of a spotlight.

The counter trap

Checking your match count several times a day does not raise it, and turns an effort into a score. Plenty of people end up optimising the counter β€” liking more, liking wider β€” instead of optimising what actually produces dates.

Twenty matches where none reply are worth less than three matches that become three conversations. The counter cannot tell the difference. You can.

Frequently asked questions

Is it normal to get no matches for a week?

It depends entirely on your volume. No match after fifty likes sent is a signal worth investigating in the profile. No match after ten likes tells you nothing: the sample is far too small to conclude anything.

Do women really get more matches?

Far more, yes, and the gap is structural: the population on these apps skews heavily male, so incoming likes are distributed very unevenly. Comparing your counter with a friend's makes no sense β€” you are not playing the same game.

Does the app penalise me for being inactive?

Apps favour active accounts, which is consistent with their interest: showing profiles that will reply. An account left dormant for weeks is therefore shown less. It is not a punishment, it is a filter.

Do I need to pay to get more matches?

A subscription increases how many people see you. It changes nothing about the share of them who stop. If your rate is low, paying simply lets you observe the same rate across a bigger number.
